Another great article, Eric. I don't come here often enough. It's a good reminder of how badly our clients need the focus and expertise we designers can bring to the table, as well as how badly we designers need to get better at selling the value of what we do to our clients.

I've read some of Blair's articles on previous occasions but this interview finally allowed me to see the connection to my business. I live/work in a government-town and most, if not all, of the projects my company is engaged on are a result of the RFP process. I don't pitch, but I do respond.

What really resonated with me were Blair's points about control and the value of deep expertise. I feel like I specialize to a point, but not as far as someone like Blair would likely recommend. I also don't say No enough, which is something I should do more often, as his reference to frantic paces sounds like my office day in, day out.
