It's easier to just tell the clients at the beginning. They expect me to be a stylist and I give them that. I also tell them that I'm a problem solver too. If I steak out my territory right from the beginning, I find my clients are a lot more receptive to my decision making process. They're always suprised, and always delighted.

Hi Eric,

what you are saying touches the heart and soul of the advertising industry too. Over here, there are lots of stylists. They make so much ad-crap that clients no longer trust the agencies to build their sales. And the worse part is they don't know they are stylists. They feed on award-annuals and websites like ihaveanidea.org and confuse themselves for the creative genuises they are.

Designers solve problems. Where style is concerned with aesthetics, as they
relate to a particular cultural context, design treats this as a secondary
concern. Design can be beautiful, ugly, or banal–it doesn’t matter.
